Corrie is happy that she has requested a second opinion: she now has a 'great leg'. I was eight years old when I lost my leg to childhood cancer. If you lose your leg as a child, you grow up with the fact that you have to do it with one leg. That is an advantage, because it means that I am still hyperactive now. How did you find us? In recent years I have had bad luck with my prosthesis. My previous prosthetist made a prosthesis that didn't fit well. The instrument maker thought I was walking well with it, while I had the feeling that I kept falling to the left. The prosthesis did not feel stable. I've been back four times. I had to come back for every adjustment, because four repairs at the same time, that was not possible there. And I'm not one to demand a new one after six months. In the end I struggled with that prosthesis for three years. And then you went back? When I finally got to the point where I wanted to make an appointment for a new prosthesis, I heard that I couldn't just do that. I first had to see a rehabilitation doctor, when all I wanted was a well-fitting prosthesis. I have been walking with an upper leg prosthesis for 63 years and know exactly what I want. I have a vacuum prosthesis with some space at the bottom. I don't want the bottom too tight, then my nerves get bothered. The prosthesis must fit well and be stable. In the end I opted for a second opinion. How did you experience the switch? I was very well received there, it is cozy and I liked that. The socket of my prosthesis was scanned and a new prosthesis was made. After some changes in the initial trajectory, it really turned out to be a great leg. I received the prosthesis on December 5th. I put it on and never took it off. That's how it goes with me. I immediately played table tennis with it. I've been walking with it for about six weeks now and I can't stop it. It's a nice leg. It's like a house. I can jump and stand with it and I won't fall over. A number of people at my table tennis club recently said: “You run so well with that leg!” I've always been an active person, but since I got this leg, I'm completely unstoppable.
