Our helmets

Cranial helmet therapy

The cranial helmet is designed to gently guide the growth of your baby's skull towards a more symmetrical shape. This non-invasive treatment is recommended for babies between four and seven months old, when the skull is still sufficiently malleable.

Why choose Protec?

At Protec we strive to provide more than just a treatment; We offer a care program that focuses on your baby and your family. Protec's cranial helmets are unique due to the use of the latest 3D scanning technology and offer many advantages.

Our unique service includes:

  • Unique cranial helmets: the latest 3D printing technology makes it possible to make the helmets particularly ventilated, thin and light. This offers major advantages, such as less trouble with perspiration compared to traditional helmets.
  • Easy fitting: fitting is done by 3D scanning. This is a simpler and less stressful fitting method for your baby, compared to fitting using a plaster cast.
  • Scientifically based methods: our therapies are based on the latest scientific insights and research.
  • Expert guidance: from the first appointment to the completion of the therapy, our team is ready to guide you and your child.
  • Accessible care: with locations in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Rotterdam, expert help is never far away.

Based on research

Scientific studies support the success of cranial helmet therapy. For example, the study, published in the renowned medical journal "Pediatrics", shows that in babies who underwent helmet therapy, significant improvements in skull symmetry were observed, compared to children who did not receive treatment.

Two orthosis in one

Our cranial remoulding helmet is a combination of two helmets in one device. This corrects your baby's head in phases, eliminating the need for a second helmet.

What do parents say?

Aida, Lucas' mother, says: "Our son Lucas has been wearing Talee helmet for over two months and so far the experience has been great! He adjusted to this helmet very quickly due to it being very lightweight and breathable compared to other brands on the market we initially considered. We are very lucky that Talee helmets are now available in the Netherlands. Not only it helped to improve our son's head shape but he keeps on getting compliments everywhere we go because this helmet looks so cool and stylish. The team is super friendly and very professional in what they do. We would definitely recommend this helmet to every parent who is about to start a helmet journey with their child."

Information for referrers

No craniosynostose statement

When providing a cranial orthosis, we always request a statement from a pediatrician, general practitioner, or pediatric physical therapist confirming that the baby does not have craniosynostosis.

Why do we need this statement? A cranial orthosis is only effective for babies with positional plagiocephaly or brachycephaly, where the sutures in the skull are still open and flexible. In cases of craniosynostosis, however, the sutures have fused too early. This condition often requires surgery to separate and reshape the skull bones. A cranial orthosis cannot resolve this issue. Therefore, we need confirmation that craniosynostosis is not present.

We are happy to help you and your baby

If you would like to know more about how cranial helmet therapy can help your child, we would like to invite you for a no-obligation appointment at one of our locations in Amsterdam, Utrecht (030-2581811) or Rotterdam (010-2412555). Our expert orthotists will answer your questions, assess your child's condition and work with you to determine whether helmet therapy is the right step forward.

To provide the cranial orthosis, we need a statement from a pediatrician, general practitioner, or pediatric physiotherapist confirming that the baby does not have craniosynostosis. Cranial orthosis are usually not covered by health insurance.
