Fitting a
Direct Socket
We fit your prosthesis using a Direct Socket. The prosthesis is molded directly to your residual limb, allowing the socket to form directly around your leg. The resin hardens within a few minutes, after which the prosthesis is finished. This way, you can go home a few hours later with your new prosthesis.

Fitting the prosthesis
With a Direct Socket, the prosthesis is ready the same day. This means you quickly have a new prosthetic leg that fits perfectly. The appointment for a Direct Socket takes approximately four hours in total. Below, we explain what you can expect. If you have any questions about the Direct Socket, feel free to contact us.

A new prosthesis within four hours

Measuring the stump
In the first hour and a half, we create the new socket. We start by examining your residual limb and ask about any sensitive areas. Your residual limb is then measured so that we can use the correct liner. You then put on the liner. After that, we outline the prosthesis.

Layers over the liner
We place several layers over the liner.

Injecting resin into the mold
The resin will be injected into the mold. This may feel warm.

Harden
Next, it’s time to wait for the resin to harden. This takes about twenty minutes.

Finalizing
The instrument maker takes the socket to finialize it and build it up into a leg prosthesis.

Fitting
Once the prosthesis is complete, you can try it on, the correct height will be set and you can take the first steps in the walking bridge. If necessary, some adjustments will be made.

Gait analysis
During the gait analysis, we examine your walking pattern. We do this by using a force plate and video footage. This allows us to see if any adjustments are needed to the prosthesis and provide you with advice on how to improve your walking pattern.
